UIC Students Celebrate Their Residency Matches

Over 300 students took part in the annual Match Day event where they learned of their residency placements.

166 Chicago medical students matched in 23 specialties in 29 states and the District of Columbia.

Among the Peoria students, 28 matched into programs in the state of Illinois, and seven will remain in Peoria for their training. Overall, students matched into 19 different specialties in 23 states. The most popular specialties for this year’s students were: Internal Medicine (16); Family Medicine (6); General Surgery and Surgical Specialties (5); and Obstetrics and Gynecology (5).

Fifty Rockford students matched into residency programs in 16 specialties in 18 states. Fifty-eight percent of the Rockford students matched into primary care specialties, including family medicine, internal medicine, MedPeds and pediatrics. Twenty-one students will stay in Illinois for their residency programs.

Retzky College of Pharmacy joined the match day festivities by matching 26 residents into 13 of the college’s programs.
