Establishing a New Center for Interprofessional Practice, Education, and Research
The new center (CAIPPER) will enhance and promote interprofessional education and interprofessional collaborative practice at UI Health and beyond.
We are very pleased to share that the Illinois Board of Higher Education has approved the establishment of CAIPPER, the Center for the Advancement of InterProfessional Practice, Education and Research.
CAIPPER will have four core functions:
- Provide education to all UIC health professions students and practicing professionals to develop and enhance skills in interprofessional collaborative practice.
- Develop interprofessional collaborative practice models at UI Health and with other clinical training partners.
- Contribute to the science of interprofessional education and interprofessional collaborative practice.
- Build and maintain an infrastructure to support and evaluate interprofessional education and interprofessional collaborative practice.
Getting to this point has been an extensive team effort and the proposal for the center was informed by many stakeholders – too many to try and acknowledge individually. The support we have received from Vice Chancellor Barish, and everyone in OVCHA has been invaluable. I want to particularly thank Ami Shah, Jacqueline Berger and the recently retired Laurie Kennard for the work that they put into the preparation of the proposal submission.
We are looking forward to working with the seven health science colleges, our healthcare system and all stakeholders to advance interprofessional education and collaborative practice. There will be multiple opportunities to provide input as CAIPPER evolves, but I invite anyone with an interest to reach out to me to share information and ideas as we begin this very exciting next stage for interprofessional education and practice!
Sincerely,
