About

Derek oversees projects related to the delivery of educational programming for health professions students and health care professionals across UI Health. Working closely with Mary T. Keehn, PT, DPT, MHPE, Assistant Vice Chancellor and Director for Interprofessional Practice and Education (IPE), he is involved in the development and evaluation of models for interprofessional collaborative practice.

With over 10 years of experience in program and project management within the public health sector, Derek joins UI Health bringing a unique blend of expertise and cultural awareness to CAIPPER, which is informed by his experiences living and working abroad (in Costa Rica and Cambodia), and his competency in three languages (English and Spanish fluently, with an advanced level of Khmer language skills). Prior to his arrival in Chicago, Derek worked for the State of Colorado Medicaid and Public Health Policy where he was responsible for piloting a federal grant program into the State General Fund.

Since arriving in Chicago, he led cross-functional teams as program manager for the Good Jobs Challenge for Chicagoland, part of the Chicago Cook Workforce Partnership. In that capacity, Derek managed large-scale projects related to public health programs.

Derek attained his MPH in Public Affairs with a focus on public health at the Truman school of Public Affairs at the University of Missouri.
