Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome DNP project at UIH NICU: Non-Pharmacological Care of Infants with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome

Goal: Using the Eat, Sleep, Console (ESC) Tool facilitates focused nursing care on function-based assessments and prioritizes non-pharmacological interventions. Use of the ESC Tool has shown less pharmacologic treatment and decreased length of stay, as well as many secondary findings.

Target population: youth residents and staff at the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center. Program topics: opioids, signs of overdose, naloxone. use and effects of naloxone rescue, availability/administration of naloxone, consequences of assisting with a naloxone rescue etc.
