What is Naloxone

Naloxone, also known as narcan, is a medication called an “opioid antagonist” used to counter the effects of an opioid overdose. Naloxone has no potential for abuse and can be administered by individuals with minimal training.

Where can I get Naloxone?

  • Chicago Recovery Alliance (CRA)
    CRA provides a wide array of services to people who want to reduce drug-related harm in their lives and in their communities.
  • Chicago Naloxone Distribution Locations
    Naloxone is available at Drug Overdose Prevention Programs (DOPPs). For more information on nearby DOPPs, please visit the IL Helpline Service Finder Page.
  • Narcan Nasal Spray
    Available from your pharmacist without a prescription from your doctor. Narcan is also covered by most major insurance plans.
