The UIC Opioid Task Force
The UIC Opioid Task Force was convened by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs and co-chaired by College of Pharmacy Dean Glen Schumock, PharmD, PhD, MBA and School of Public Health Dean Wayne Giles, MD, MS. The charge of this task force was as follows:
- Identify UI Health representatives with relevant work and expertise on opioids and related issues; including prescribing practices, treatment alternatives, addiction, research and abuse prevention.
- Monitor pending legislation and funding opportunities related to opioids and identify individuals within UI Health who may be competitive for funding opportunities.
- Collaborate with national, state and local agencies, elected officials and other recognized leaders to provide expertise, resources and innovative solutions.
- Identify the impact of the opioid crisis on our own student, staff and patient population and identify resources for those individuals impacted by the epidemic.
The Task Force concluded in May 2020.
